Eat to Compete

  • Make healthy food choices not just before a game, but everyday.
  • Be mindful of what you are putting in your body.
  • Don’t skip meals.
  • Keep hydrated with water. If you choose sports drinks, be mindful of the amount of sugar they contain.
  • Limit fats and sugars. These items should come from nutritionally sound sources. For example, instead of fried foods, consume healthy fats from nuts, avocados and the like. Consume sugars from fruits rather than from soda for example.
  • Select whole grain choices in place of white flour or highly processed choices.
  • Eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables.
  • Athletes need the recommended daily amount of protein in order to build strong muscles.
